Pfeiffer University’s reaccreditation reaffirmed by The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

Pfeiffer University has been reaffirmed accreditation for the next ten years by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), www.sacscoc.org, the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting public and private higher education institutions in the Southern states.

“Reaccreditation by SACS is the culmination of more than three-year’s effort and preparation by Pfeiffer faculty and staff,” said Dr. Tracy Y. Espy, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “While we know instinctively that Pfeiffer University offers a high-quality liberal arts experience, this distinction confirms that Pfeiffer is on a path toward continued excellence.”

Every ten years, SACS conducts an in-depth evaluation of an institution’s policies and academic programs to assure compliance with its standards for the education of students. Reaffirmation indicates that institutional programs meet or exceed national standards, including in regard to academic rigor, faculty credentials and financial strength. An important component to Pfeiffer’s current application for reaccreditation is the university’s commitment to its Quality Enhancement Plan, Engaged Learning and Critical Thinking, designed to enhance student engagement in the learning process.

Pfeiffer University is one of 34 colleges and universities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Latin America and other international sites whose accreditation was reaffirmed by SACS on Dec. 10, 2012. Its next reaccreditation is due in 2022.
